2005

  • Founded by IDRC, Microsoft and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation
  • Launched the Telecentre.org program globally  at WSIS 2005 in Tunisia

2006

  • Explores diverse telecentre models and services around the globe
  • Delivers multiples telecentres workshops for partners worldwide
  • Launched the book “From the ground up – The evolution of the telecentre movement”, an ICT landmark for professionals in the sector worldwide

2008

  • Telecentre.org leads a  Global Workshop on Telecentres at the GKP conference in Kuala Lumpur
  • Telecentre.org establishes five community sites in five different languages to facilitate the exchange and collaboration of its global community
  • Promote and later secured the establishment of Regional Telecentre Networks (Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America and Middle East). Regionals bodies of local entities, working together on multiple telecenter models and ICT projects

2010

  • Telecentre.org Foundation becomes an independent entity based in Manila Philippines
  • Five Regional Telecentres Networks in operations, including more than 280 national telecentres networks and over 1800 local partners and supporters

2011

  • Held a meeting on Strengthening the Asia Pacific Telecentre Network with APTN members in Dhaka, Bangladesh
  • Delivers the Third Global Forum on Telecentres, in Santiago, Chile
  • Becomes an International Telecommunication Union (ITU) strategic partner
  • Launched the TC Women Global Digital Literacy Campaign
  • Received the “Best Affordable Initiative for Rural Connectivity Award” at e-Asia 2011, in Dhaka, Bangladesh

2012

  • Delivers Telecentre Leaders Forum in Barcelona
  • Launched the Telecentre of the Future (later to become SparkLab) at the Connect Americas Forum in Panama, in collaboration with ITU and the Government of Catalonia
  • Received the 2012 WSIS Award for “Best online global learning community”, in Geneva, Switzerland
  • Delivers the MENA Region Telecentre Leaders Meeting, in Muscat, Oman, in collaboration with the Information Technology Authority (ITA) of Sultanate of Oman

2013

  • TCF & ITU expanded Telecentre Women Digital Literacy Campaign to more than 80 countries
  • Delivers the First Spark Telecentre Forum, in Granada, Spain – The largest telecentre event ever with more than 1300 participants from 56 countries and more than 8000 remote participants
  • TCF is nominated for the “Internet Day Award” as one of the best Internet global programs
  • Invited by the Catalonia Government, TCF delivered a workshop on Telecentre and Mobile technologies at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona , Spain
  • Content from TC Academy becomes available in 5 languages
  • TCF and ITU developed and delivered the first ICT & Entrepreneurship training for women and girls (English and Spanish) in over 18 countries

2014

  • TCF moves from Manila to its new headquarter in San Francisco, California
  • TCF is nominated for the “2014 Best Internet Organization”
  • Established the first SparkLab in Barcelona, Spain
  • Delivers SparkLab workshop in Chile and Egypt
  • Received “UN Women GEM-TECH Award” – for its global efforts providing digital training for women – 1.3 million women reached

2015

Today, it simply goes by the name Telecentre Foundation or TCF, with San Francisco, California as its new headquarters. A fully registered 501c(3), international non-profit organization, constantly searching for new ICT4D  initiatives to improve the lives of those who remain in excluded from the benefits and opportunity that ICT, the Internet and the Web enables.
